Following last year’s sold-out Fall Season, BalletCollective returns to the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine with three world premiere ballets. Each one offers a distinct exploration of the season’s theme: Opposites Attract.
Opposites Attract began as a description of how we create our genre-expanding work: brilliant artists from different forms, brought into the same room to work toward a shared goal. It grew into an exploration of the competing impulses inside a single mind.
The evening begins along a candlelit pathway that leads into one of NYC’s most iconic spaces. Inside, encounter live music and discover eleven of the world’s best dancers performing so close that they are almost within your reach.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Opposites Attract is a performance of three stylistically different world premiere ballets, which means you will be the first audience to see these new pieces.
The space. The performance takes place in the Crossing, beneath the Cathedral's central dome. Four seating sections surround the stage. You'll be close enough to hear the dancers breathe.
Duration. The performances on Tuesday and Wednesday will last approximately 90 minutes. For more information on the Gala, click here.
When to arrive. Doors open 30 minutes before Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s 7:30 PM performance. Doors for the Gala will open at 6:30 PM on Thursday.
Late seating. Late arrivals will be seated at the next natural pause, or at the end if no break allows.
Dress. Whatever you’d wear to dinner. Casual is welcome.
Photos and video. Photos before, during bows, and after the performance are encouraged. During the performance, please put phones away.
Children. Recommended for ages 7 and up. The program is three ballets of 19 to 23 minutes each, with a short pause between them, so the longest stretch of sitting still is about 23 minutes.

GETTING HERE
Opposites Attract takes place at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 112th St.
Entrance location. Locate the BalletCollective banner and enter through the courtyard just to the north of the Cathedral.
By subway. The closest stops are the 1 train at 110th St (a five-minute walk) and the B and C at 110th St (a nine-minute walk).
By car. A handful of parking garages sit within two to five blocks of the venue. Street parking in the area is limited and meter hours vary by block — check posted signs or the ParkNYC app before leaving your car.
By ride-share or taxi. The block in front of the venue is fine for drop-off. Use 1047 Amsterdam Avenue and get out just north of the front of the Cathedral.
Accessibility. The entrance to the Cathedral is accessible via ramp in the North Courtyard. Wheelchair and companion seats are available for purchase. For specific accommodations or questions, email info@balletcollective.com and we’ll work with the venue directly.

Fifteen years ago this fall, a young organization made its New York debut. It has since become a leader in the field, unafraid to be bold, to take a chance, and, as an early New York Times review put it, to "ask central questions about the genre of ballet."
At BalletCollective, ballet is a collaborative art form, not a style. Since our founding we have worked with more than 350 artists, authors, choreographers, composers, musicians, designers, and dancers through The BalletCollective Process, our original method for making forward-thinking, dance-based work.
BalletCollective has been presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center, Pioneer Works, and Trinity Church Wall Street, and covered in The New York Times, New York Magazine, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Dance Magazine, Pointe, Cosmopolitan, T Magazine, and CR Fashion Book.
