CASTING NOTICE

for

THE WOODS

A new, immersive, theatrical concert experience.


BalletCollective and San Fermin are casting singers-who-dance, contemporary dancers-who-sing, and contemporary dancers for the July 2025 World Premiere of The Woods at Pioneer Works, a new, immersive, multi-genre work blending San Fermin’s indie rock catalogue, contemporary dance and theater by Ellis Ludwig-Leone (Music & Lyrics, San Fermin, The Night Falls) and Troy Schumacher (Director & Choreographer, New York City Ballet, The Night Falls) with contributions from Jason Ardizzone-West. Three casted dancers will also be selected to perform in BalletCollective’s fall season in late October or early November 2025, featuring a new dance work by Chloe Crenshaw and a work of contemporary repertory by Troy Schumacher. PAID.

Please Note: This is a non-Equity production (outside Actors’ Equity jurisdiction). We welcome performers of all backgrounds to audition; however, please be aware that Actors’ Equity rules and guidelines do not apply.

REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE DATES 

Rehearsal and Production Dates: June 16 – 29, 2025 and July 7 – August 2, 2025 (New York City area + out of town residency) The Woods is a co-production between BalletCollective, San Fermin, and Pioneer Works. 

For the three dancers under consideration for both The Woods and BalletCollective's Fall Season, the additional fall dates will be either October 20-31, 2025 OR October 27, 2025 - November 7, 2025.

IN PERSON AUDITIONS ARE INVITE ONLY AND ARE SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 4 - 6, 2025 at 10 AM in MIDTOWN MANHATTAN.

DANCE GUIDELINES

ALL PERFORMERS SHOULD BE COMFORTABLE WITH AN ATHLETIC, CONTEMPORARY DANCE MOVEMENT STYLE WITH BALLET INFLUENCES PERFORMED IN STREET SHOES OR BAREFOOT.  DANCERS DO NOT NEED PROFESSIONAL SINGING EXPERIENCE, BUT THERE WILL BE GROUP SINGING AT MOMENTS THROUGHOUT THE SHOW.

ALL SINGERS SHOULD BE COMFORTABLE SINGING IN AN INDIE-ROCK/FOLK/ALT POP STYLE.  PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING PAGES FOR A MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION AND AUDITION REQUIREMENTS.

AUDITION GUIDELINES

1. Lead Vocalist - comfortable with movement 

Female presentation: soprano or mezzo-soprano

Ethnicity: any 

Age: reads 20-40 

Vocal Requirements: comfortable singing indie rock and/or pop-style vocals with athletic vocal leaps and wide dynamic range. Ability to read music is a plus.

Movement Requirements: While this character does not need to be a professional contemporary dancer, they should have the ability to assimilate into a group of trained dancers and feel comfortable moving around while singing in a non-proscenium space.

Please prepare self-tapes of the following selections from THE WOODS. Audition materials can be found  HERE. Vocal reference tracks and piano vocal scores are provided. Please use the “no-vox” tracks for your self-tape.

2-3.  Featured Performer 1 and 2

Any gender presentation: Mezzo-soprano, soprano, tenor, or baritone 

May also be invited to perform in BalletCollective's Fall Season.

Ethnicity: any 

Age: reads 20-45 

Vocal Requirements: Comfortable singing in an indie-rock/folk/alt pop style. Will vocalize mostly in ensemble environments. Previous professional singing experience not required.

Movement Requirements: A professional dancer proficient in multiple movement styles including contemporary, modern, and improvisation. Comfortable embodying a character, acting, and moving around in a non-proscenium environment.

Vocal Requirements: Comfortable singing in an indie-rock/folk/alt pop style. Will vocalize exclusively as backup in ensemble environments.

Movement Requirements: A professional dancer proficient in multiple movement styles including contemporary, modern, and improvisation. Comfortable embodying a character, acting, and moving around in a non-proscenium environment.
